How To Use Your MBA

You can use your MBA degree for the twin purposes of showing that you are ready to move to a senior management position, and that you have the motivation for that move.

This is especially useful for people who are currently in a supervisory role in a specialist or technical area. The MBA shows that they are capable of more general management functions that are required in senior management.

Most people gaining an MBA degree report promotions and salary increases. So use your MBA to apply for promotion and negotiate a salary increase!

Use an MBA to study subjects that you know you are weak on. For example many non-finance managers say that they are weak on finance. Use the study of your MBA to address that weakness. At business school you will have a structured learning environment, and access to people who can explain the concepts that you find difficult to grasp.

You can also use your MBA studies to network, and don't forget networking with your tutors too! People studying for an MBA are often future leaders of business and industry, valuable people to have as friends.

And if getting an MBA doesn't help with your current company – then use it to get a new job at a better company.
